WU Vienna: many registrations, spread across the whole semester
WU has no single big moment. Courses open in LPIS on many days, in three blocks per semester. In winter 2026 a sample from the public catalogue showed 22 opening days in the bachelor's alone.

How registration works
- Parallel groups of one subject usually open together within a block. Many subjects open again in later blocks, so missing one date is usually not final. Whether and when your subject opens again only shows in that semester's catalogue, and summer 2027 is not public yet.
- Usually the first to register within the window gets the place. After that, extra places are often added, and you move up the waiting list by study progress, not by list position.
- In the bachelor's common core (CBK) we estimate about four to seven subjects with limited places per semester, on three to five opening days.
- You only see the exact hour in LPIS. Official windows often open at 14:00, but check each course there.
What is at stake
- Mostly your timetable. Anyone who missed Microeconomics in September still had chances in November and January in the samples.
- It gets serious for subjects with only one date. In the sample all groups of Annual Financial Statements opened on 10 September and all of Finance on 25 September. Anyone who misses out there and sits far down the waiting list can lose a semester, especially alongside a job.
- For specializations, applications and MyMatch almost always decide, not speed. The exception is timestamp procedures such as Recht der Wirtschaft, with 30 places and 73 applications in summer 2026. That entry runs in my@WU though, not in LPIS.

What Fixplatz is meant to do
- LPIS courses where places go by registration time, planned from block 3 in January 2027, once the technology is tested.
- A long ranked list with parallel groups, planned for about 30 courses rather than just five.
- The first course registration after specialization entry, where it runs by time in LPIS.
Where Fixplatz does not help
- Specialization entry on 28 January 2027, 14:00. It runs in my@WU, and Fixplatz does not cover that at launch, not even for timestamp procedures.
- MyMatch, applications and rankings for specializations. Speed does not count there.
- Places given by study progress, and moving up after the window.
- Courses that register through the institute instead of LPIS.
- Swapping and deregistering. Fixplatz only registers.
Price
Launch price- €91 credit
- €243 credits
- €355 credits
Example: you want three subjects in February and buy three credits for €24. Two registrations are verified and for the third subject you only land on the waiting list. Then two credits are used. The third stays yours for next time, or you get €8 back on request.
A credit is a balance for one registration, not ECTS. You pay it in advance by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or EPS, and it covers one opening including your backups. Launch price, the price may change later. Credits you bought do not expire.
Questions about this university
How many credits do I need per semester?
That depends on your plan. In the common core (CBK) we estimate four to seven subjects with limited places, but not every one is contested. A credit is only used on a verified registration, so a larger pack is not lost.
What if I land on the waiting list?
That costs no credit. Worth knowing: according to WU, a place in a parallel group cancels your other waiting lists in that module. So you choose when you arm: keep trying your backups, which is the default, or stop at the waiting-list place.
May I use this at WU?
WU says to register directly through LPIS and gives no support for problems caused by other software. Its rules apply, and if you break them, you carry the consequences.
Does Fixplatz help with MyMatch?
No. There the institutes rank you and you rank your preferences. Time plays no role.
Do I have to do anything at opening time?
Your laptop must be open, online and plugged in, and you must stay signed in to LPIS. You will probably have to sign in again shortly before, which we will settle before launch.
When does Fixplatz start at WU?
A supervised first run is planned for block 3 in January 2027, if the technology is ready in time. The big block follows in February.
