MedUni Vienna: one round per semester, and it is about your weekday
You end up with a group either way. The question is which one: the free weekday, the line, your job or childcare. That is what Fixplatz is for here, not the place as such.

How registration works
- Two rounds a year: late January for semesters 2, 4, 6 and 8, early September for 3, 5, 7 and 9. Each semester of study has its own opening day.
- In the 5th year you register only once, the 9th semester also fixes the 10th. In Dentistry this applies to the 5th and 7th semesters.
- You choose among the groups that are still free. A place someone releases by swapping is immediately open to everyone.
- Anyone who does not register is assigned at random according to MedUni's page, also when the system has problems. There is no legal right to a particular group. Elsewhere the same page also says that not registering loses the place. So register in any case.
- Hours change. In winter 2026 Human Medicine opened at 09:00 and Dentistry at 11:00, Human Medicine in summer 2026 at 11:30, 12:15, 12:30 and 17:30, and one time was changed at short notice. MedUni's own page counts.
What is at stake
- No lost semester, since everyone ends up in a group. It is about the free weekday and whether job, care and study fit together.
- It counts most in the 5th year, because one registration fixes two semesters.
- This matters most for working students: without another reason they are excluded from pre-registration.
- How fast the popular groups fill is not documented anywhere in public. We will measure it in the January 2027 round and put the result on this page.

What Fixplatz is meant to do
- Registration in Med.Campus at the opening of your semester: Human Medicine semesters 2 to 8 and Dentistry semesters 2 to 4 for €19, Human Medicine 9th semester and Dentistry 5th and 7th semesters for €29.
- Up to five ranked groups. If one is full, the next one follows straight away.
- This is the university where the technology is furthest along. Still, a scheduled registration has never run live here either.
Where Fixplatz does not help
- Pre-registration by form. It is open to tutors, parents, carers, MD-PhD students and students with a chronic illness, and it does not run on speed.
- The 1st semester opens from admission, with no common start. It is therefore not included.
- Swapping. Fixplatz only registers. If you already have a group, it gives you nothing.
Price
- €19per round

Example: you pay €19 in advance and rank five groups for your 4th semester. Your first choice is already full, Fixplatz registers you for the second and the system verifies it. The €19 are then used, whichever of your choices it was. If none is verified, they stay as your balance, or you get them back on request.
You pay in advance by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or EPS. In the 9th semester and in Dentistry's 5th and 7th semesters it is €29, because the registration fixes the whole year there.
Questions about this university
Why pay if I get a group anyway?
If any group suits you, you do not need Fixplatz. It is for anyone to whom a particular weekday matters, for example because of a job.
Should I register anyway if I want nothing in particular?
Yes. Without registering you are assigned at random according to MedUni, and its page even says elsewhere that the place is lost.
When exactly is the January 2027 round?
It is not published yet. From last year we expect about 26 to 29 January 2027. The window may shift, so check MedUni's page from 2 January. The table above shows when your semester last had its turn.
May I use this at MedUni?
MedUni asks students with registration problems to refrain from third-party apps. Its rules apply, and if you break them, you carry the consequences.
Will I get my first choice?
Nobody can promise that. Fixplatz tries your choices in order at the opening, and others register at the same time.
Can I rank several groups, and am I then in all of them?
You rank up to five and get registered for exactly one: the first that works.
